Strengthening collaboration through digital infrastructure: Source Community communiqué

The Source Community convened for its regular meeting to discuss progress, share experiences, and align on future priorities for the Source platform. The meeting marked the transition of leadership, with Mr Boitumelo Mashilo (Chief Director for Infrastructure Regulation and Assessment, Budget Office, National Treasury of South Africa, and Lead of the Infrastructure Working Group for the South African G20 Presidency) assuming the role of Chair for the upcoming year. The Community expressed deep appreciation for the outgoing Chair’s contributions, particularly in advancing the platform’s visibility and impact.

The Chair emphasised the importance of collective engagement, highlighting the Community’s role in fostering collaboration, breaking down silos, and enhancing infrastructure project development through Source. The upcoming representation of the Community at the next Source Council and Donors Community meeting, which will happen on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, was noted as a key opportunity to amplify its voice and showcase its achievements.

Key Updates from the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation:

  • Progress continues on the enhancement of Source templates, with valuable feedback under review.
  • Source country users requested to SIF additional post-integration support, which came in a format of signed letters, which SIF is now discussing with donors. Countries that have implemented Source see a need of additional support especially in additional training sessions, support to institutionalise Source and make it part of the institutional framework, among other needs.
  • The Community’s contributions to the G20 Practice Guide[1] were acknowledged, demonstrating Source’s relevance across multi-stakeholder coalitions and international forums.

Community Contributions: Members shared insights and experiences on their respective implementations of Source and how Source is not just a tool but a catalyst for systemic change, including:

  • Integration of Source into national platforms and data systems.
  • Use of Source to improve project transparency, coordination, and alignment with international standards.
  • Efforts to institutionalise Source and connect it with government portals.
  • Using Source to build a investable pipelines of infrastructure projects.
  • Anticipation for upcoming AI features and a more streamlined user experience.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Community’s commitment to strengthening Source as THE global digital platform for infrastructure development. The Chair expressed gratitude for the active participation and reiterated the importance of continued collaboration.

[1] This Practice Guide for Leveraging Project-Level Data and Digitalising the Pipeline is one of the deliverable of the Group of Twenty (G20) Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) in 2025 under Priority 1, Developing an Investable Infrastructure Pipeline. The priority aimed to strengthen pipeline development to attract significant private sector participation in public infrastructure development. The Practice Guide contributed to the priority by focusing on making project-level data accessible and reliable, which is a necessary condition for attracting private sector participation.
