A recent mission to Madagascar marked an important step in advancing infrastructure project preparation through the official launch of the SOURCE platform on May 28th, with strong engagement from both national authorities and development partners.
Held from 25 to 29 May 2026, the mission brought together key government stakeholders, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UPPP), and benefitted from the support of the Secretary General of the Presidency. This high-level involvement highlights the growing importance of strengthening project preparation processes at the national level.
The integration of SOURCE in Madagascar was financed and technically supported by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). In parallel, a series of meetings were held with development partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). These discussions focused on how Source could complement existing efforts to improve coordination, strengthen project planning practices, and support the development of structured project pipelines.
Beyond the introduction of the platform, exchanges provided valuable insight into current practices and challenges. Government counterparts expressed a clear interest in using Source to support the digitalisation of project preparation and improve coordination between institutions. In particular, discussions with the MEF highlighted the potential for Source to serve as a practical tool for project management and internal coordination.
The mission also helped identify concrete next steps, including continued engagement with both national authorities and development partners to support the next phase of implementation particularly in relation to capacity building and post-integration activities.
Overall, the mission confirmed strong national ownership and active partner engagement, reinforcing the relevance of Source in supporting more structured, transparent and coordinated infrastructure project preparation in Madagascar.
SIF looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Government of Madagascar, the financing support from AFD and all partners to support the effective integration of Source and contribute to the development of investment-ready infrastructure projects in Madagascar.
