The Source Community convened online on July 9th, 2026, bringing together representatives from member countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America to participate in the first presentation about the new Source platform: SourceX, named based on feedback from users, with the “X” representing the infinite possibilities now available for governments through the platform.
The meeting marked an important milestone for the Community as countries prepare to migrate to SourceX, which was designed following countries users feedback and insights and will have an improved user experience and interface, performance and speed, and integration capabilities while supporting the growing needs of countries using Source.
A new chapter for Source
The centrepiece of the meeting was the presentation of SourceX, representing a significant evolution of the platform. Built around a modern and user-centred design, SourceX introduces a faster and more intuitive environment that brings together project preparation workflows, assessments, tasks and collaboration tools within a single integrated platform.
The development of SourceX reflects the continued engagement of the Source Community and the ongoing commitment to improving the user experience while maintaining the methodological rigour that has made Source a trusted project development platform. In addition, SourceX continues to deliver on three main benefits guiding the work of SIF: systematic data collection, interoperability between systems and domestic customisation.
Preparing for migration to SourceX
Community members were informed that migration to SourceX will begin in the coming weeks and will be implemented progressively across participating countries.
The migration process has been designed to ensure continuity while enabling users to benefit from the enhanced capabilities of the new platform. Existing project information will be transferred to the new environment, allowing countries to continue managing their infrastructure portfolios while taking advantage of improved functionality and performance.
Training materials and user guidance will accompany the migration process, supporting countries as they transition to the upgraded platform.
Built for interoperability and future growth
The meeting also provided an overview of the technical foundations of SourceX. Developed as an API-first and cloud-based platform, SourceX has been designed to facilitate interoperability with national systems and other digital infrastructure solutions, while leveraging AI capabilities and benefiting from collaboration with the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) to deliver a scalable, secure and future-ready digital infrastructure platform.
This approach supports greater integration, reduces duplication of effort and enables governments to better align project preparation processes with their existing institutional frameworks and digital ecosystems.
The platform also maintains a strong focus on security, reliability and accessibility, providing a robust environment for infrastructure data and project management.
Looking ahead
Discussions throughout the meeting highlighted the growing importance of digital solutions in strengthening infrastructure planning, project preparation and investment readiness.
As infrastructure needs continue to evolve, SourceX remains committed to supporting governments and practitioners through innovation, continuous improvement and collaboration. Future enhancements, including AI-enabled capabilities, which are already being incorporated into SourceX and will continue to evolve over time, will continue to expand the platform’s ability to support decision-making, improve efficiency and increase accessibility for users across different regions and languages.
The meeting reaffirmed the strength of the Source Community and its shared objective of improving the quality, transparency and effectiveness of infrastructure project preparation. With the introduction of SourceX, the Community enters a new phase in its mission to support the development of sustainable and investment-ready infrastructure projects worldwide.
