The latest milestone of United Nations Commission on International Trade Law’s (UNCITRAL) collaboration with the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) has been completed with the deployment of UNCITRAL’s Legislative Guide on Public-Private Partnerships on the SOURCE platform.
The Synergies between both organizations’ objectives has brought momentum to this project as it complements and enhances SOURCE’s service to its users and raises awareness of UNCITRAL’s Legislative Guide, which is designed to assist States in providing for the establishment of a favourable legal framework for PPPs.
SOURCE provides a comprehensive map of all aspects to be considered when developing quality and sustainable infrastructure with governance, technical, economic, legal, financial, environmental and social issues. With the recent launch of SOURCE’s latest version, its users are now able to access tooltips summarizing UNCITRAL’s guidance in 8 languages (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, Ukrainian and Bahasa). They are also redirected to the relevant sections of the UNCITRAL Legislative Guide on Public-Private Partnerships.
SOURCE covers all phases of the project lifecycle, from early options appraisal through to implementation, thereby allowing the delivery of relevant guidance at the right juncture in the project’s lifecycle. The UNCITRAL Legislative Guide provides solutions to the main legal issues arising throughout that life-cycle, from project planning and preparation of the project to duration, extension and termination of the PPP contract, thereby allowing States to engage in PPPs without the uncertainty that gaps in a legal framework can involve.
The collaboration between UNCITRAL and SIF strengthens the capacity of project developers by providing a structured and standardized methodology integrating UNCITRAL’s recommendations, as well as a practical access to its curated knowledge products.
UNCITRAL Secretariat has joined SOURCE, a very user friendly digital platform, to better disseminate UNCITRAL legislative guidance on PPPs, with tooltips available in 8 languages supporting governments across the world to well prepare their infrastructure projects and thereby allow successful private participation in those projects.
