In February, representatives from the SOURCE Community and Private Sector Community convened for two meetings to discuss plans and initiatives for 2025.
The Source Community meeting (February 4, 2025) highlighted significant progress in both platform development and country successes. Ecuador proudly shared its continued success, improving its Infrascope ranking from 15th to 9th1, showcasing the real impact of Source in enhancing infrastructure project preparation. South Africa is advancing efforts to align infrastructure data with SDGs, boost transparency, and update all projects within Source. Azerbaijan is putting the finishing touches on its PPP framework, while Indonesia is making strides by working on institutionalising the use of Source. Excitingly, a major Source platform upgrade is set for June 2025, introducing new functionalities aimed at streamlining project preparation.
The Source Private Sector Community meeting (February 5, 2025) brought the spotlight onto increasing private sector involvement in infrastructure development. Discussions introduced the Barometer, an innovative new tool within Source designed to incentivise governments to publish key infrastructure project data, making the risk profile of projects more visible and boosting investor confidence. This initiative is part of ongoing work, with further updates expected throughout the year.
The G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG), under South Africa’s presidency, has made the development of an investable project pipeline a top priority, highlighting the pivotal role the private sector plays in infrastructure development. This reinforces the importance of the discussions in the Source and Private Sector communities. A G20 IWG Side Event (March 20-21, 2025) will showcase private sector perspectives, with the Chair of the Private Sector Community representing the community in person. Between February and April 2025, both private sector and community members are encouraged to contribute to the G20 IWG deliverables.
Looking ahead, the April 2025 meetings in Washington D.C., held alongside the WBG-IMF Spring Meetings, aims to bring together the Private Sector and Source Communities to continue discussions on infrastructure development. These meetings will be hybrid, allowing for both in-person and virtual participation.
We look forward to continued collaboration and the exciting developments that lie ahead in the coming months!
