Source Community Communiqué – August Update

A lot has happened within the Source Community over the past few months. Below are some quick updates:

Community news: In June, the Source Community convened for a productive meeting, marked by the warm welcome of new members from the Kyrgyz Republic and Georgia. Their inclusion reflects the growing reach and collaborative spirit of the Source Community.

Country contributions and feedback from the month of June:

  • South Africa and Indonesia emphasised the importance of future AI integration where possible.
  • Georgia completed the pilot phase and proposed a community-led review of template questions to reduce redundancy.
  • Tanzania shared its experiences with user navigation and experience.
  • France supported streamlining templates while maintaining alignment with international standards and investors.
  • Egypt, Georgia, and Indonesia stressed the need for operational support, including training and consultancy presence for up to 12 months post-implementation.

G20 Infrastructure Working Group success: Furthermore, in August 2025 the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) completed its significant achievement of authoring the Practice Guide for Priority 1: Developing an Investable Infrastructure Pipeline. This Practice Guide addresses the need to move towards digital solution approaches to combat the current reliance on semi-manual project data collection, a finding determined through SIF’s rigorous interview process of G20 members and invited countries. These insights will in parallel, inform the upcoming upgrade of the Source platform.

We are pleased to inform that the Practice Guide on “Leveraging infrastructure project-level data and digitalising the pipeline” was officially endorsed in the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting which took place on 17 and 18 July 2025 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa[1]. SIF is very proud of this achievement and gives thanks to the South African Presidency for the trust granted during this process and appreciates all those who supported in the creation of the Practice Guide. Platform upgrade and training: A new version of Source is currently in development, incorporating feedback and lessons learned from country users which aims to improve the current platform. Training sessions will be offered to ensure members are well-prepared in using the enhanced platform.

Workshop: A workshop with representatives from each participating country is currently being planned. This workshop will gather input on countries’ needs and desired functionalities. A key focus will be the potential integration of AI tools, particularly for translation and project monitoring, marking a pioneering step in public sector digital tools.

Strategic outlook and revenue model: The community has also been discussing strategic methods in maintaining Source as a public good whilst exploring private sector collaboration.

Plan for the upcoming months: SIF will collect feedback on template questions to improve the user experience and to ease inputs during project preparation. A further Source Community meeting will be hosted online in September to maintain progress on the excellent work done thus far.

The Source Community remains committed to innovation, inclusivity, and the continued evolution of infrastructure project preparation and development as a public good.
