SIF highlights SOURCE’s role in advancing sustainable infrastructure and investment mobilisation at Paris Infra Week

The Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) participated in the Paris Infra Week 2025, where Pedro Nicolau, Head of Integrations at SIF, delivered remarks on behalf of the SOURCE Community, which now brings together 17 user countries working to strengthen infrastructure governance and project preparation capacity.

During the panel, Mr. Nicolau outlined how SOURCE supports governments to align infrastructure projects with international sustainability standards while supporting governments in developing investable project pipelines. He emphasised that SOURCE integrates methodologies and frameworks from leading global initiatives, including the FAST-Infra Label, Blue Dot Network (BDN), G20 Quality Infrastructure Investment Indicators (QII Indicators), IFC Performance Standards, and the SDGs, into a single, user-friendly digital environment.

“SOURCE enables governments to assess project sustainability early on, helping governments to meet social, environmental, and governance criteria even before financing begins,” said Mr. Nicolau. “This not only improves project quality but also builds investor confidence and accelerates mobilisation of private capital.”

He also touched on the recently endorsed G20 Practice Guide on Leveraging Infrastructure Project-Level Data and Digitalising the Pipeline[1], developed by SIF under the leadership of the South African Presidency of the G20 Infrastructure Working Group. The Guide, supported by contributions from over 90% of G20 members and invited countries, sets out three blocks for digital pipeline management: Systematic data collection, interoperability with other systems, and domestic customisation.

Mr. Nicolau illustrated SOURCE’s tangible impact, citing Ecuador’s rise from 15th to 9th place in the IADB–The Economist Intelligence Unit Infrascope ranking, an improvement linked to the country’s adoption of SOURCE for project transparency and coordination. Similar benefits are being observed across the SOURCE Community, including in Angola, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Egypt, Georgia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Madagascar, Pakistan (Federal and the province of Sindh), Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan.

“Investment in SOURCE is delivering measurable benefits to governments — enhancing transparency, improving coordination, and enabling stronger engagement with investors and partners,” noted Mr. Nicolau.

SIF extends its appreciation to the organisers of Paris Infra Week for the opportunity to share the experience of the SOURCE Community and contribute to the global dialogue on sustainable infrastructure.
