On March 20-21, 2025, the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation hosted a side-event roundtable at the G20 Infrastructure Working Group Meeting 2, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the Practical Approaches to Planning Preparation for Investable Infrastructure Pipelines.
The panel featured distinguished speakers:
- Brazil – Marden de Melo Barboza, General Coordinator at the Ministry of Finance, Government of Brazil (representing the Brazilian PPP Unit for the panel discussion)
- France – Pierre de Romanet, Head of Unit for International Financial System & Summit Preparation
- South Africa – Alvino Wildschutt-Prins, Programme Manager: Infrastructure Pipeline Management at Infrastructure South Africa (ISA)
- Source Community Chair and Ecuador – Pablo Cevallos, Secretary for Public-Private Partnerships, Government of Ecuador
Moderated by Catherine from Pinsent Masons, as representative of the Source Private Sector Community, the discussion provided valuable insights, emphasising the need for strong collaboration between public institutions and the private sector. A special acknowledgment goes to Pablo Cevallos and his team for joining the session online from Ecuador, despite the late hours, and for representing Source Community users (Angola, Egypt (as invited G20 countries) and Indonesia (G20 member)).
Key discussions centred around:
- The critical role of data in fostering a common understanding and driving project prioritisation and sound financing decisions
- The systematic collection, interoperability and customisation to meet unique country need, to mobilise private sector investment
- Showcasing the use of Source in delivering investable project pipelines
Going forward
“If you don’t like change, you will like irrelevance even less.” The momentum is building, now is the time to embrace innovation and develop a robust, investable infrastructure pipeline for all.
A special thanks to the South African presidency for hosting this event and setting the stage for these critical discussions.
