Project Description
The Cardenillo project is located downstream of the Sopladora Hydroelectric Plant, whose final studies determine that it will have an installed capacity of 595.65 MW (divided into 588.31 MW from the plant and 7.34 MW from a small plant located in the foot of the dam). The project has an estimated construction period of 75 months and will operate with a design flow of 180 m3/s taken from the diversion and catchment dam fed by the turbinated waters of the discharge from the Blower Power Plant (150 m3/s) plus the waters corresponding to the intermediate basin of the Paute River between the discharge of the Molino Power Plant and the Cardenillo dam (30 m3/s).
The project begins at the Sopladora discharge site and ends with its discharge, in the Paute River itself, near the town of Singuiantza.
Politically, it is located between the Amaluza parish, Azuay province and the Copal and Santiago de Méndez parishes, Morona Santiago province. To a large extent, Cardenillo is located on the left bank of the Paute River, in the vicinity of the Sangay National Park.
